Molly The French Bulldog

Organized by Her ma' and pa'

A couple steps back
It has not been that long since I last wrote you guys an update though a lot has changed for Molly. As you know, her recovery had been going perfectly and we could not have been more happy. We had talked to the neurology team at Canada West and we were told Molly would be ok to spend Christmas around others and walk around as long as she was kept to one area. Christmas Eve had gone great and I was so happy to see Molly out and about.

Christmas day came and right before Molly was set to leave to go back home, she and my brothers pug got into a fight over a new toy. That night Molly was not herself and was showing signs of pain and discomfort. She would fall asleep, wake up and start panting until she would calm herself down and eventually fall back asleep. On repeat.

The next day we brought her to the Emergency Vet. We knew something was wrong. We thought maybe she had done to much to soon and that she had exhausted herself. Or maybe those were our hopes for her. The vet felt as though her pain was not from her back as we had thought, but from her neck. She recommended that we take Molly back to Canada West so the neurology team could take a look at her and have an MRI done.

I could not believe only 6 weeks later and we were back to Canada West. That we were back to not knowing how everything was going to turn out. I was devastated.

The neurology team felt as though Molly had done some damage to her neck and that that was were her pain seemed to be coming from. We had to keep her at Canada West over night so that she would be able to have some relief from the discomfort. The next day Molly had a CT scan done on both her back and neck.

When we heard back from Dr.Sharpe that her CT scan on her back had come back normal, we could not have been more happy. He then told us that she had herniated a disc on the base of her neck and though not severe, was causing her a lot of discomfort. With all of the problems Molly has been dealt, 3 years had played a toll on her body, whether 6 weeks from her surgery or a year down the road, we could have never known.

Dr. Sharpe then went on to tell us that he felt as though Molly would heal with a few months rest and that as of now surgery was not urgent. We have been home for a couple days now and Molly has been doing well on her pain medications. We know we have a long road ahead of us with Molly though we are ready to help her any way we can. We have done a lot of research into acupuncture and have heard so many great stories of success and we hope to get Molly started as soon as we can.

We are very hopeful for our Molly and her recovery. She amazes me everyday and she has been so strong. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts and thank you to all of you who helped us with your donations.

Thank you!!

6 Week Mark!!
It has been WAY to long since I gave you all an update on Molly!! With Christmas only 5 days away now, we have been very busy around here, and Molly has been counting down the days until she can get her paws on her stocking.
Her recovery has gone SO well!! It has been 6 weeks since Molly had her surgery and she has been laying low while she recovers. We have been able to start taking for 10 minute walks every day and she could not be more happy to get out and about. Her back scar has almost completely healed up and her fur has grown about 95% back.
Once we meet the two to three month mark Molly should be allowed to go back to off-leash activities and play around. She can hardly wait. I am nervous for when the time comes to ease her back into her normal day to day adventures, I can only pray that she will be healthy and happy from here on out. I know we will do everything we can to prevent her from having any further problems.
I want to also thank all of you who have followed along our Molly and have showed your support for our baby. We wish every one of you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. And though we have been patiently awaiting some snow over here, we are all ready for Christmas and spending time with our loved ones, and I know Molly can not wait to be reunited with her pal, Holls the pug. Photos to come.

Ball of energy
Hey everyone!! Molly update!! Her recovery continues to go amazingly well. We have been SO lucky and blessed that she has had such a smooth recovery. Her staples were taken out last week and she has healed up really well. I am also amazed at how fast her hair has grown back. Good thing since our Winters are pretty cold!!
You would not believe the energy she has all balled up!! Every day becomes harder and harder to keep her calm and relaxed though for the most part she does not seem to mind napping all day long.
We are almost at her 3 week mark and when we get to her 6 week mark she will be able to go out and play. We could not ask for a better Christmas present.
I wanted to say a huge thank you to FrenchieSpace.com and to all of those who took part in Molly's auction. Your support and donations mean the world. Thank You!!

More updates to come on weekend.

Staples gone!!
Hey everyone!! Quick update on Molly!! We brought her to our local vet today to have her staples taken out as well as a couple small stitches she had in her nose from her stenotic nares surgery. As soon as we drove up to the vet Molly started to shake and when we had to hand her over to our vet to take her to the back to have the staples taken out I felt so bad. I am sure she would be more than happy if she never had to go to a vet EVER again!!
Our vet told us Molly has healed extremely well and that everything looked great. When she brought her back out to us her poor nose was rosy and had teeny dots of blood where the stitches had been though I am sure she will be happy they are out because she constantly tries to rub her face on her bed to get at them!! Emphasis on the try!!
Her back looks GREAT!! And we could not be happier than to have the staples out. They were hard to see on our Molly moo and having them taken out feels like we made it through OK!!
Thank you to everyone for your support!! More updates to come. xo

Two weeks ago today..
Hello everyone!! I wanted to give you all a update on Molly. So far so good!! Her recovery has been going great!! She has been a bit restless the past couple of days with having to stay inside in her small sleep area. I can only imagine the amount of energy that Frenchie has bottled up inside her!! In a few more weeks she will be able to gradually go back to her normal activity level and we are really looking forward to her being able to go play outside!! There's not a lot of things my Frenchie loves more than walking around outside, playing in the leaves, and smelling the cold fresh air.

I just keep thinking about how lucky we are. How lucky we are that we were able to catch her herniated discs and that we were able to be proactive. I know this is not the case with most French Bulldog owners and my heart goes out to them all. We are SO grateful that we had the chance to catch the problem. I pray everyday for her to be healthy and happy from here on out and I know that we will have a huge part in that by keeping her out of trouble!!

The past couple of weeks now, have been a bit of a blur for us, and I cannot believe that Christmas is only a few weeks away now. Two weeks ago today we learned Molly was going to need surgery. Two weeks ago today our world was turned upside down. Only two weeks later and we are all home together and could not be more grateful for everyone's love and support. We are really looking forward to having Molly's staples come out on Wednesday by our local Vet and then spending the holidays with our baby French. It would probably be safe to say she will have an extra toy or two this Christmas.

Thank you SO much to everyone who has taken the time to read our story and who has donated to our Molly. And a huge thank you to Ciara from FrenchieSpace.com for organizing an amazing auction for Molly. You are an angel!! If you have not checked out Molly's auction there's still time!! http://tinyurl.com/cuk7ul8

And please continue to spread Molly's story!!
More updates to come. xo

Day by day
Hello everyone!! Quick update on our Molly!! Her recovery has been going really well and we could not be happier!! Yesterday was her last day on her pain medications and she had a harder time being able to relax and get comfortable though eventually she fell asleep and slept throughout the night. Today was her first full day off her medications and she has been doing SO good!! She sleeps and rests well when we are inside though the moment we take her outside she seems to forget she had a huge surgery only a week ago!!

Each and every day I see her becoming more and more like herself and that means the world to us and at times you almost forget everything that has taken place in the past week!! I was playing with her furry bat ears today and started to pet her back when I felt her staples and was quickly reminded of everything our Molly has had to go through and the toll everything has taken on us. My heart broke for her all over again. Molly has been one crazy strong bulldog and her recovery could not be going any better.

We will be spending the weekend with our Molly while she continues to recover and hopefully that snow they have been calling for will actually come!! A couple of white frosty snowflakes falling from the Winters sky would sure make one happy Frenchie!! Thank you everyone for all of your support towards us and our Molly and please continue to spread our pups story and also share her Auction!! The amazing people from FrenchieSpace.com have put together an auction to help Molly!! You can learn more here http://tinyurl.com/cuk7ul8

More updates to come!!

Recovery
I wanted to give you all a quick update on Molls. Her recovery has been going very well so far. She spends 90% of her day sleeping and resting all cozy in her bed. I can tell she wants to be able to go and play so when she spends the other 10% of her day outside I can really see her spirits rise as she goes around smelling all the leaves and walking around on the crisp grass that has been covered by the frost from the night before.

They call for snow here in a couple days and I can hardly wait to see her excitement when she sees the snow flakes falling. I am not sure if all Frenchies love snow or not though Molly would probably tell you snow days are her most favourite. We can hardly wait until she can have her staples out and be able to go and play.

We are so grateful for all of your support and good thoughts and please remember to share Molly's story as much as you can. All of your donations are GREATLY appreciated and hopefully we can spread word to other Frenchie owners to be proactive when it comes to there pups.

More updates to come!! Thank you!! We love Molly more than anything and knowing we have the support of others has meant the world to us all especially our Molly.

Home
I am so happy to be writing this post from the comfort of my bed and with Molly in hers. We are home!! When we woke yesterday morning we had planned on going to say hello to Molly and that we would be taking her home with us on Sunday. Like every morning, we called Canada West to see how Molly had been throughout the night and that's when we were told we could take her home around noon!! Molly had been doing so well they saw no reason why she could not come home a day early!! We could not have been happier to hear such great news!! We packed our bags, checked out of our hotel and anxiously awaited until noon. When we got to Canada West we learned all about her medications and what our part was going to be to ensure Molly would have a quick and smooth recovery. About half an hour later, my Molly came walking out, with her nub of a tail wagging, and she gave us so many kisses it was as though she thought we needed a bath!! She was OK. She was healthy and happy and other than the staples and larger nostrils, she was the same Molly we had dropped off days before. It would be safe to say we got her in our car as quickly as we could and headed to the ferry terminal and at last we were home!! Her first night home went really well. She slept throughout the night and has been eating up a storm of her soft puppy food. Other than when she goes outside for a quick pee, she has been cuddled up in her bed and making nice with my new Ikea blanket. Oh, and her new Reindeer we bought for her. We are taking her recovery day by day though we are SO grateful for how well she has been doing this far. I know all of your prayers and thoughts have been with her and we can't thank you all enough. More updates to come. xo
Me and Mols Christmas 2010
One more day!!
Today was spent trying to keep ourselves busy. You would think there would be hundreds of things to do for fun around Vancouver, though when all you want to do is see your pup and be able to take her home, the days go by extremely slow. We are now allowed to go and see our Molly though we have held off because of how excited she would be to see us. They told us they would have to sedate her once we would leave and I am not sure seeing her and then leaving again would be easy on her nor on us. I would probably try to sneak her away with me and never look back!! We have been calling every few hours though and have been told she has been doing really great. She has been walking around and has a good appetite. (No surprise here!!) These long days are really starting to take there toll on us. We are missing her like crazy and are counting down the seconds until all three of us head back home to the Island. We should be able to take her home Sunday!! Thank you everyone for your support. Means the world. More updates to come tomorrow. xo
